XT High Performance Thermal Line

At Boyd Aluminum, we manufacture XT high-performance thermal products for commercial projects that need stronger thermal performance, clean design, and coordinated building-envelope solutions. Choose the path below based on whether your project needs 3250XT thermal strut commercial aluminum windows or XT high-performance thermal storefront systems with thermally broken storefront framing and entrance doors.

What Is the Boyd XT Line?

XT is Boyd Aluminum's high-performance thermal product line for commercial buildings. XT windows and storefront systems use thermally broken aluminum construction, including the 3250XT's 39mm polyamide thermal strut and dual pour-and-debridge thermal barriers in XT storefront framing, to support projects with demanding energy codes and thermal performance targets. The line covers fixed and operable windows, historic-replica "-G" configurations (aluminum units that replicate historic steel sightlines), storefront framing, and thermal entrance doors.

3250XT Thermal Strut Windows

New energy-code requirements are driving demand for high-performance commercial aluminum windows. The 3250XT thermal strut window line supports architects, contractors, glaziers, and project teams reviewing commercial aluminum window openings with thermal-strut construction, a 3.25" frame depth, and a 39mm polyamide thermal strut.

Start here when the project needs fixed, project-out, project-in, casement, or "-G" historic-replica commercial window configurations with interior glazing, snap-in glazing beads, 1" and 1.75" glazing options, and window accessory coordination.

  • Punched window openings or commercial replacement windows.

  • Operable projected or casement commercial window units.

  • Historic-replica window appearance with exterior snap-in muntin coordination.

  • Window schedules involving panning, receptors, mullions, trim, screens, or accessory coordination.

XT Thermal Storefront Systems

Thermal performance meets design flexibility. The XT storefront line is for projects that need thermally broken aluminum storefront framing, thermal storefront doors, fenestration product data, and coordinated commercial storefront solutions for the building envelope.

Start here when the project needs B460XT front-set storefront framing, B450XT center-set storefront framing, D350XT medium-stile thermal entrance doors, or D500XT wide-stile thermal entrance doors.

  • Ground-floor storefront openings or larger aluminum framing layouts.

  • Front-set or center-set storefront glass plane coordination.

  • Thermal entrance doors, storefront hardware, finishes, and glazing coordination.

  • Historic-grid compatibility, adaptive reuse, storefront replacement, or curtain wall aesthetic.

How to Choose the Right XT Product Path

If the project is centered on individual commercial window openings, operable window units, fixed windows, historic-replica windows, or window accessories, start with the 3250XT thermal strut window line. If the project is centered on storefront framing, entrance doors, ground-floor openings, glass plane coordination, or a full storefront package, start with the XT storefront line.

Many projects include both windows and storefront. In that case, send the drawings, elevations, window schedule, storefront schedule, glazing requirements, performance targets, finish requirements, and bid date so the project can be reviewed as a coordinated package.

Not Sure Which XT System Fits?

Send the project information Boyd needs to review whether XT windows, XT storefront framing, thermal entrance doors, or a coordinated package is the right starting point.

  • Project name and bid date.

  • Drawings and elevations.

  • Window schedule, storefront schedule, or entrance schedule.

  • Glazing requirements and performance targets.

  • Finish requirements and accessory needs.

Our Direct Assistance™ team can help review the available XT product path for your project requirements.

Thermally Broken Window & Storefront Questions

What is a thermally broken aluminum window?

A thermally broken aluminum window separates the exterior and interior aluminum with a non-conductive barrier, such as a polyamide strut or a poured-and-debridged polymer channel, so heat has no continuous metal path through the frame. That helps keep interior frame surfaces warmer, improves energy performance, and reduces condensation potential compared with non-thermal aluminum.

Boyd's XT line is built on this principle, including the 3250XT window's 39mm polyamide thermal strut and dual pour-and-debridge thermal barriers in XT storefront framing.

What is the difference between a thermally broken and a non-thermal aluminum window?

A standard non-thermal aluminum frame conducts heat and cold straight through the metal, so in cold weather the interior frame runs cold, wastes energy, and can invite condensation or frost on the frame. A thermally broken frame interrupts that metal path with a non-conductive barrier, helping the interior side stay warmer and perform closer to what commercial energy codes require for conditioned buildings.

That thermal break is often the difference between an aluminum window that can be reviewed for today's energy requirements and one that is better suited to non-thermal applications. Boyd's XT line uses thermally broken construction across its windows, storefront framing, and entrance-door path.
